It Is Good  to Give Thanks  to the LORD

“Good” things   have benefits  in so many ways.     Psalm 92:1-2  declares,

It is good  to give thanks  to the LORD
And to sing praises  to Your name,  O Most High;
To declare  Your lovingkindness  in the morning
And Your faithfulness  by night.

The  “good”  that the psalmist is talking about means  that appropriately giving “thanks  to the LORD”  is the morally good  and right thing  to do  —  and it puts us  in a pleasant relationship  with the LORD,  our Maker and Redeemer.     It makes us right  with God  because we are  then standing  in the eternal truth  of God’s almighty authority  over us  and His loving care  for all His created beings  who trust  in Him.

It is  to our benefit  to accept  the truth  of our being.     We are sinners  —  but in love  the LORD seeks  to save us  through faith  in Jesus Christ.     It is not “good”  for us to deny  this truth  and refuse God’s love.     When we are loved  by the Almighty  so freely  and purely,  it is only morally right  to accept that love  and love  in return.

Praising God  and giving “thanks”  is  “good”  and right  as we realize  the beautiful freedom  of being a child  of God.     Knowing the truth,  we are free  from the guilt  of our sins.     That freedom  leads us  “to declare”  God’s  “lovingkindness  in the morning”  and  “faithfulness by night”.

“Good” multiplies  in so many ways  when we are right  towards our Savior.     Our greatest  “good”  will be experienced  in eternity.     There  we will really  “sing praises”  with a fuller knowledge  of all God  has done  for us.

With thankful hearts  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your love  and grace  towards us  are great  far beyond words.     Thank You!”

Love,
Margaret
