Open  Your Mouth  Wide

Whether it’s mother bird  feeding her young ones  —  or one of us  teaching  our young children  to eat solid foods  —  with loving hearts,  we want  our little one to  “open  your mouth  wide”  so we can get the food in  and they will grow  to be healthy,  strong,  and happy.

We are God’s little children.     We need  to be nourished  with God’s truths,  so we will be spiritually healthy,  strong,  and happy  —  enabled  to reach  our home  in heaven.     If we choose  to not  partake  of God’s truths  —  stubbornly keeping our mouths tightly shut  —  we will die spiritually,  be bitterly lacking understanding,  and spitefully imagining  that God does not care for us  or love us.

In Psalm 81,  God reviews  His almighty  saving acts  of love  for the Israelites.     In spite  of experiencing  many miraculous,  saving acts  of love,  many Israelites chose  to stubbornly live  in their sins and idolatry.     They rejected  the LORD,  their Savior,  and chose  to worship idols,  living like their heathen neighbors.     They did not like  or appreciate  God’s ways  and commandments.

The LORD  told them  in Psalm 81:8-10,

Hear,  O My people,  and I will admonish you;
O Israel,  if you would listen  to Me!
Let there be  no strange god  among you;
Nor shall you  worship  any foreign god.
I,  the LORD,  am your God,
Who brought you up  from the land  of Egypt;
Open your mouth wide  and I will fill it.

Open your mouth wide  and I will  fill it”  sounds like  many a young mother.     It can be frustrating  to work  with a stubborn child,  who wants  nothing but treats.     God gave the Israelites  “over to the stubbornness  of their heart,  to walk  in their own devices.”

He let the rebellious  suffer  the consequences  of their stubborn sinfulness,  which is eternal condemnation.     But,  He still offered  forgiveness  and blessings  to all  who would turn back  to Him.     That  is grace  and righteousness.

May we revel  in God’s grace  and say,  “Hallelujah!    LORD,  it is so good  to be Your dear child.”

Love,
Margaret
