Out  of the Mouth  of God

All Christians  should realize  that believing  in God  means  that we have  a deep respect  and love  for God’s word.     That respect  and love  does not mean  that one tenderly dusts off  their Bible  and places it back  on the shelf  or table  —  without ever reading it,  studying it,  and living by it.

Respecting and loving  God’s word  means reading  and studying it  daily.     Daily!?     Yes, daily.     Many stoutly claim  they don’t have time  to read God’s word  every day.     But,  we do have time  to eat  and nourish our bodies  every day.     We know we’ll get weak  if we don’t eat nourishing food  every day.

Obviously,  food keeps us healthy.     But,  some day  this ol’ body will die,  in spite of having eaten  good foods  regularly.     When Jesus  was tempted  by Satan  to make stones  into bread  to satisfy  His hunger,  Jesus pointed out  that it is much more important  to take care of  our spiritual life  by not  obeying Satan.     Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8:3  in replying  to Satan   in Matthew 4:4,

It is written,  ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE  ON BREAD ALONE,  BUT ON EVERY WORD  THAT PROCEEDS OUT  OF THE MOUTH  OF GOD.’

Jesus’ words are eternally true.     We do need bread  for our physical bodies  —  but much more importantly,  we need  to read God’s word  and apply it  to our everyday lives.     No one can live eternally  when they choose  to refuse  “every word  that proceeds out  of the mouth  of God.”     Refusing  to study  and live God’s word  every day  is spiritual starvation  —  a slow death away  from our Savior.

Let us respect,  love,  and honor  God’s word  by studying it daily.     Living  on God’s word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for nourishing us  in Your truths.”

Love,
Margaret
