To Give  to His People  the Knowledge  of Salvation

When Zacharias,  the father  of John the Baptist,  was filled  with the Holy Spirit  and prophesied  about his son,  he said  in Luke 1:76-79,

And you,  child,  will be called  the prophet  of the Most High;
For you  will go on  before the Lord  to prepare His ways;
To give  to His people  the knowledge  of salvation
By the forgiveness  of their sins,
Because  of the tender mercy  of our God,
With which  the Sunrise  from on high  will visit us,
To shine upon  those who sit  in darkness  and the shadow  of death,
To guide  our feet  into the way  of peace.

People like  to think  that they are  “in the know”  about most everything.     But,  even among  the most successful people  in this world  there are ever so many  who don’t have a clue  about even needing  “the knowledge  of salvation”.     They feel they have  all the knowledge needed  to be successful,  and that there is no need   for any more.

Most are clueless  about needing  “the forgiveness  of their sins”.     Many imagine  that their sins  are not serious enough  to merit eternal condemnation.     But,  their unbelief condemns them.     Just imagining  that we are good enough  for heaven  will not get us there.     One must believe  that only through faith  in Jesus  can anyone  be saved  and receive  “the forgiveness  of their sins”.     Our money,  houses,  vehicles, etc.  are only signs  of worldly success.     We can’t take any  of that stuff  with us  when we die.

But,  we can take  our faith  in Jesus  with us  when we die.     By faith,  all our sins  are totally forgiven  and heaven’s door  is wide open  for us.     That’s what John the Baptist preached  as he told people  to repent  of their sins  and be ready  to meet their Savior.

As Jesus’ forgiveness guides  “our feet  into the way  of peace”,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for sending John the Baptist  to show us the depths  of our need  for Your salvation.”

Love,
Margaret
