As Was Supposed

With so much lack  of knowledge  about God’s word  —  and His sure prophecies  —  people  of various descent  have made nativity scenes  depicting Jesus  as being born  of their particular race.     Although Jesus surely came  to be the Savior  of everyone  in this world,  it is important  that nativity scenes show  that He is  of Jewish descent.     This is important because  God Almighty prophesied many times  that the Savior  would be born  from the Jewish tribe  of Judah  —  and that He would specifically be  a descendant  of King David.

Nobody’s feelings  should be hurt  because our Savior  is of Jewish descent,  instead of their particular race.     Much rather,  we should all  be glad  because God’s many  very detailed prophecies  really came true,  exactly as God said they would.     All those fulfilled prophecies  are proof  that Jesus is the one-and-only Savior  and that we can trust  in Him  to forgive absolutely all  our sins.

Matthew 1:1-17  gives us a genealogical listing  of Jesus’ ancestors through His mother Mary.     Matthew 1:18 then says,

Now the birth  of Jesus Christ  was as follows:  when His mother Mary  had been betrothed  to Joseph,  before they came together  she was found  to be with child  by the Holy Spirit.

Mary’s lineage  was as God said  it would be.     Joseph’s lineage  is given  in Luke 3:23-38.     There we note  that Luke 3:23  specifically says,

When He began  His ministry,  Jesus Himself  was about thirty years  of age,  beingas was supposed,  the son  of Joseph.

Everybody  “supposed”  that Jesus  was the son  of Joseph  —  but Jesus was conceived  “by the Holy Spirit”  “before they came together”.     So,  even though Joseph  was not Jesus’ father,  he still had a lineage  through King David  and all the other prophesied lineage.     All things are possible  through God.

The only reason why  the Jews  kept genealogical records  was  to give evidence  of God’s power  to fulfill His word  exactly as promised.     Jesus’ genealogy  is our assurance  of God’s trustworthiness  to fulfill  His promises.     Since genealogies no longer are needed  to show  God’s power,  1 Timothy 1:4  now instructs us  not…….,

…….to pay attention  to myths  and endless genealogies,  which give rise  to mere speculation  rather than furthering the administration  of God,  which is by faith.

No matter  who we are,  we live  “by faith”  in what God has done  for us  through Jesus Christ.     That is good reason to say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for so much detailed evidence  of Your eternal salvation  through Jesus alone.”

Love,
Margaret
