So They Came in a Hurry

So  They Came  in a Hurry

We  “hurry”  to things  that are important.     Many people  don’t think much  of shepherds  these days.     They’re just poor people  taking care  of their flock  of sheep.     But,  King David  was a shepherd  and God had great regard  for the faith  in his heart.     God also  had great regard  for the nearby shepherds  on the night  Jesus was born.     Because  of their faith  and trust  in God,  our Lord  announced the birth  of the world’s Savior  to them  first of all.     That’s an immense honor.

After hearing the angel’s message,  Luke 2:16  says  about these faithful shepherds,

So they came  in a hurry  and found their way  to Mary  and Joseph,  and the baby  as He lay  in the manger.

These shepherds  were humble people,  who knew  God’s promises  of a Savior  as found throughout the Old Testament scriptures.     They trusted  that the LORD  would have the Savior  born in David’s town  of Bethlehem,  as God’s word promised.     That trust made them strong  in faith  —  and it made their hearts right  with God,  in faith,  hope,  and love.

Psalm 84:5  makes a description  of such people  of faith.     It says,

How blessed  is the man  whose strength  is in You,
In whose heart  are the highways  to Zion!

The shepherds were  “blessed”  because their  “strength”  of faith  rested  in the LORD.     Their hearts  were not busy coveting  the things  of the rich and powerful.     Much rather,  they were men  “in whose heart  are the highways  to Zion!”     Their ultimate goal  in this life  was heaven  —  the home  of their Creator Redeemer  —  their Sustainer  and LORD.

When our hearts  are in the right place  —  like the shepherds’ hearts  —  we will always “hurry”  to see  our Savior  as we study His word.     As we search  for Him,  there are references of Him  throughout the Bible.

Seeing the evidence  of our faithful Savior  in His eternal word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD Jesus,  thank You  for keeping Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
