A King

A  King

When the wise men  were searching  for the Savior,  they asked  in Matthew 2:2,

Where is He  who has been born King  of the Jews?     For we saw  His star  in the east  and have come  to worship Him.

They wanted to  “worship Him”  because they knew  He was not only  “King”,  but also God  our Savior.     They probably knew this because  of the times  the Jews were  in captivity  in their areas  hundreds of years beforehand.     The Jewish people often spoke  of a Savior  who would come  and deliver them.

At the end  of Jesus’ ministry,  when He was  on trial  to be crucified,  John 18:37 records,

Therefore  Pilate said  to Him,  “So You are a king?”

Jesus answered,  “You say correctly  that I am a king.     For this  I have been born,  and for this  I have come  into the world,  to testify  to the truth.     Everyone  who is  of the truth  hears  My voice.”

That babe  in a manger  was born  “a king”.     His whole purpose  was “to testify  to the truth”.     Seeing how Jesus  was the fulfillment  of so many Old Testament prophecies,  we should understand  that He did  “testify  to the truth”  —  the “truth” we should be trusting.     The “truth” is  as He preached  —  that He is God Almighty  in the flesh,  come down  to suffer,  die,  and be resurrected  —  so that His sacrifice  would have the power  to take away all  of our sins.

What do we believe  about this Jesus?     That’s important  because Jesus pointed out,  “Everyone  who is  of the truth  hears  My voice.”     Are we  “of the truth”  or not?     If we have doubts  and fears,  we need  to study God’s word  to all people.

Because  knowing the truth  sets us free,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for powerfully  washing away  all our sins  and making us worthy  to live  with You  forever.”

Love,
Margaret
