Give Me Understanding
Give Me Understanding
Many people don’t understand their need for a Savior. They seem to only understand their desire to earn more money so they can buy the things they want. Some desire an “understanding” of certain subject matter in school, so they can pass a test. Others desire an “understanding” of how to become more popular.
It is good to have “understanding” in many areas. But, the most important “understanding” everyone truly needs is the “understanding” of our sinful natures and of how God wants to lead us to salvation. Knowing that, Psalm 119:33-35 prays,
Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes,
And I shall observe it to the end.
Give me understanding, that I may observe Your law
And keep it with all my heart.
Make me walk in the path of Your commandments,
For I delight in it.
Only God Almighty can give us eternal life. We need to understand that none of our goodness is able to make us worthy of eternal life. We need God to “teach” us “the way” of His “statutes” — His rules for being deemed righteous and worthy of eternal life.
God’s rule is that we understand that sin really condemns eternally — and that faith truly makes us righteous. Faith makes us righteous because it is accepting the truth — the truth that we are sinners — that Jesus is God come down to save us — that Jesus fully paid for all our sins on the cross — and that God’s love for us is always urging us to understand His ways by letting Him teach us in His word.
Since we don’t always have a natural bent for wanting to do things God’s way, it is important to pray, “Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes,” and “Give me understanding”.
“Understanding” the pure love of God for us, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, Your ways are filled with goodness and love.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
