By Grace

Some people imagine  that if they keep  an optimistic view  of life,  they will be sure  to get  to heaven.     God’s word  never indicates  that anyone is saved  through their optimism  —  their most hopeful  and cheerful view  of this life.     Much rather,  God’s word tells us  in Ephesians 2:8,

For by grace  you have been saved  through faith;  and that not  of yourselves,  it is the gift  of God.

There is a huge difference between a determined optimism  and being “saved”  “by grace”  “through faith”.     The “grace” spoken of  is God’s loving kindness  and mercy towards us.     As filthy  as we are  in all our sins,  God does not have to love us  or have mercy  on us.     We don’t deserve  God’s love  because we keep on sinning.     We’re incapable  of being pure and holy.

It is God’s love  that saves us  “through faith”.     And,  none  of our strongest and most successful efforts  to be good  will save us either.     God’s  “grace”  —  His love  —  gives us  “faith”.     Our “faith” is  “the gift  of God”.

We might feel  that our “faith”  is our effort  to believe  in God,  but not really.     Romans 10:17  shows us,

So faith  comes  from hearing,  and hearing  by the word  of Christ.

In other words,  God leads us  to hear  His word.     If we didn’t have  the word  of God,  we couldn’t believe it.     So,  God leads us  to His word.     We can then reject  God’s word,  or allow Him  to show us His truths  and how His promises  have been fulfilled  in Christ.     Hebrews 12:2  calls Jesus,

…….the author  and perfecter  of faith…

So,  we let God’s  “grace”  —  His love  —  create “faith”  in our hearts  as we study His word.     In the peace  of God’s  “grace”,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for the gifts  of salvation  and Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
