Because They Hated Knowledge

Criminals,  deceivers,  liars,  and extortioners,  all know  that they are  doing wrong.     But,  they hate the truths  of righteousness,  honesty,  truthfulness,  and lovingkindness.     They actually despise  the truths  of God’s wisdom  for living rightly.     In Proverbs 1:29-30,  Wisdom says,

Because  they hated knowledge
And did not choose  the fear  of the LORD,
They would not  accept my counsel,
They spurned  all my reproof.

That Wisdom speaking  is  God’s wisdom.     The wicked  “choose”  to despise  God’s wisdom.     They detest  any mention  of the right  and decent way  to conduct themselves,  so they refuse  God’s “counsel”.     Every time God lovingly desires  to set them  on the right path,  they spurn  His  “reproof”.     God uses  strong hints  of “reproof”  to get us  to thinking  about our wayward ways  —  because He loves us  and wants  to save us  from condemning ourselves.

But  “because they hated knowledge”  they belligerently “choose”  to do what is evil  in order to satisfy  their sinful desires.     We see this  in our daily lives,  business dealings,  in politics,  and throughout the whole world.     The news media is chuck full  of news about those  who have  “hated knowledge”  and  “did not choose  the fear  of the LORD”.

We have  no control  over other people’s actions  as they spurn  God’s “reproof”  in their lives.     But,  we can humbly accept God’s word  as our guide  in our life.     Then  we will realize  Proverbs 11:2,

When pride comes,  then comes dishonor,
But with the humble  is wisdom.

It’s sheer relief  to let God’s wisdom  guide us  in this world’s  deceptive temptations.

In appreciation  of God’s tender love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for tending  to our every need  for guidance.”

Love,
Margaret
