In Return  for My Love  They Act  as My Accusers

King David faced many enemies.     The enemies  that hurt him the most  were the ones  he had loved  and prayed for.     David wrote  in Psalm 109:4-5,

In return  for my love  they act  as my accusers;
But I am  in prayer.
Thus they have repaid me  evil  for good
And hatred  for my love.

David left everything  in God’s hands.     In such situations,  only God  can make  a righteous judgment  and set things straight.     This same attitude  of depending  on God  to take care  of judgment righteously  holds true  in New Testament times also.     Jesus teaches us  in Matthew 5:44,

Love your enemies  and pray for those  who persecute you.

And, Romans 12:19 reminds us,

Never take your own revenge,  beloved,  but leave room  for the wrath  of God,  for it is written,  “Vengeance is Mine,  I will repay,”  says the Lord.

When the Thessalonian Christians were suffering  many harsh persecutions,  Paul wrote them  in 2 Thessalonians 1:4-6,

……. We ourselves speak proudly  of you  among the churches  of God  for your perseverance  and faith  in the midst  of all your persecutions  and afflictions  which you endure.      This is a plain  indication  of God’s righteous judgment  so that you  will be considered worthy  of the kingdom  of God,  for which  indeed  you are suffering.     For  after all  it is only just  for God  to repay  with affliction  those who afflict you…….

Just remembering  our own weaknesses  and God’s most holy  and righteous judgment  over absolutely all  of His creation,  we can rest  in knowing  that He will set  all things straight  in the end.     Ephesians 2:8 reminds us,

For  by grace  you have been saved  through faith;  and that not  of yourselves,  it is the gift  of God.

Humbly depending  on our Savior,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your saving grace.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.
