Even the Dogs  Feed  on the Crumbs

There are probably many times  when our ardent prayers  simply are not answered  —  at least  for awhile  or according to our thoughts.     But,  no matter who we are,  God wants us  to faithfully persist  in our prayers,  trusting  God’s love,  power,  wisdom,  and mercy.     Our prayers are answered  —  even when the answer  is not  what we expected  or exactly  what we imagined  to be the best.

During Jesus’ ministry,  a Canaanite woman  came to Jesus  loudly begging Him  to heal her demon possessed daughter.     Jesus did not answer her  and His disciples  wanted her sent away  because she was  such a distraction.     Finally,  the following took place  as recorded  in Matthew 15:24-28,

But  He answered  and said,  “I was sent only  to the lost sheep  of the house  of Israel.”

But  she came  and began  to bow down  before Him,  saying,  “Lord,  help me!”

And He answered  and said,  “It is not good  to take  the children’s bread  and throw it  to the dogs.”

But she said,  “Yes,  Lord;  but even the dogs feed  on the crumbs  which fall  from their master’s table.”

Then Jesus said  to her,  “O woman,  your faith  is great;  it shall be done  for you  as you wish.”     And her daughter  was healed at once.

All things are possible  with God  —  and nothing  is impossible.     The Canaanite woman  asked for something  that was good  —  and for an act  of loving  mercy.     Her faith  was not wishy-washy,  as she was very sure  of Jesus’  power,  love,  and mercy.     She did not give up  on what she knew  to be true.

Our prayers need  to be acts  of faith,  hope,  and love  —  always trusting  in God’s wisdom  and mercy.     He will do what is best  for us.     Therefore,  we can be sure  of His love,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for blessing our time  on earth  that we may better serve You.”

Love,
Margaret
