Light  Is Sown  Like Seed  for the Righteous

It’s no fun  being  “in the dark”  about what is going on around us.     In some situations,  it can be downright scary  when we are concerned about our safety.     We need “light”  to lead us safely  through this life.     That is why Jesus comforts us  with what He said  in John 8:12,

I am the Light  of the world;  he who follows Me  will not walk  in the darkness,  but will have  the Light  of life.

In Jesus’  “Light  of life”  we honestly see  that we are forgiven  of all our sins,  and given eternal life  when we believe  and trust  in Jesus’  merits  as He died for us  on the cross  —  not on our own merits.

There are many people claiming to be Christian and regularly attending church,  who do not really know Jesus as  “the Light  of the world”.     Rather than depending  on Jesus,  they are depending  on their own good works  and righteous  —  in spite of the fact  that they know  they are sinners  deep down inside.     They are only fearfully hoping  they can worm their way  into heaven  by claiming good works.

But,  we need  to think  about Psalm 97:11-12,

Light  is sown  like seed  for the righteous
And gladness  for the upright  in heart.
Be glad  in the LORD,  you righteous ones,
And give thanks  to His holy name.

God’s word often points out  that faith is counted  as righteousness.     In other words,  those who put their faith  in Jesus  will be given “Light”,   i.e. the knowledge  that Jesus  has made them “righteous”  through their faith.       With the “Light”  of knowing  for sure  that our faith  in Jesus  makes us a “righteous”  child  of God,  we have  “gladness”  as we  “give thanks  to His holy name.”

When Jesus  has “sown  like seed”  His words  of truth  in our hearts,  we have His  “Light” planted  in our hearts.     Then we know  for sure  we are saved eternally  and will live  with our heavenly Father.

So  —  we open up  our Bibles,  and let  the  “Light”  of God’s word  be planted  in our hearts.     Then,  in “gladness”  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for giving us  the sure promises  of Your eternal word.”

Love,
Margaret
