Beware  of the Dogs

We have great reason  to always rejoice  because  we are so beloved  by our Creator  that He has freely given us  eternal salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus.     Believing and trusting Jesus  makes us  clean and righteous  in God’s sight.

Sadly,  there are those  who want  to burden us  with so many man-made rules  and rituals  that we no longer know how  to rejoice  in our Savior.     We become fearful  of not having done  enough “good” things  to get into heaven.     Therefore,  Philippians 3:2-3 warns,

Beware  of the dogs,  beware  of the evil workers,  beware  of the false circumcision;  for we are the true circumcision,  who worship  in the Spirit  of God  and glory  in Christ Jesus  and put no confidence  in the flesh.

The term “dogs”  is referring to men  of impure,  crooked minds  —  those who have no thought  of the consequences  of their words  and actions  —  just as  a dog  might not think  of the consequences  of his actions.     There are eternal consequences  for all those  who twist  God’s word  to fit their worldly desires.

We are to  “beware”  of every kind  of false teaching.     They are all  basically  calling God  a liar  —  as they insist  that their way is right.     So,  Paul says  the true worshipers  “worship  in the Spirit  of God  and glory  in Christ Jesus”.      We are  to  “worship”  according to God’s word  —  AND “glory  in Christ Jesus”.     What Jesus did  for us  on the cross  is to be  our main focus  and reason for worship.     Jesus is our pride  and joy.

So Jesus taught  the Samaritan woman  at the well  in John 4:24,

God is spirit,  and those  who worship Him  must worship  in spirit  and truth.

We must worship  according  to the “spirit”  and “truth”  of God  as shown  to us  in God’s word.

In the freedom  of God’s love  on the cross,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank you  for showing Yourself  in all Your word  in the Bible.”

Love,
Margaret
