Serve  the LORD  With Gladness

Everybody  has their ups and downs.     All the stuff  that affects us  in this world  impacts how we feel.     As we live through these ups and downs,  there are some eternal truths  in Psalm 100:1-3  we need  to pay attention to.

Shout joyfully  to the LORD,  all the earth.
Serve the LORD  with gladness;
Come before Him  with joyful singing.

Know  that the LORD Himself  is God;
It is He  who has made us,  and not we ourselves;
We are  His people  and the sheep  of His pasture.

We simply belong  to God,  since He made us.     The Bible has compared us  to a lump  of clay  that the potter shapes  into something beautiful  and useful.     God is shaping us.     Just as a shepherd  gently cares  for his sheep  and leads them  to the best pastures,  our LORD  is caring for us,  and leading us  in the ways  where we can best grow  in a true faith,  hope,  and love.

Because  the LORD  is eternally trustworthy  to keep us  in His care,  we can  “shout joyfully  to the LORD”  and  “serve the LORD  with gladness”.     We can do that  through good times  and bad.     There are so many people  in the Bible,  who are examples  for us  of serving the LORD  with an inner  “gladness”  even in their sufferings.     There is David,  Abraham,  Daniel,  Shadrach,  Meshach,  Abed-nego,  Isaiah,  Jeremiah,  Paul,  James,  Stephen,  Peter  —  and on and on.

They all had a heartfelt  “gladness”  because they knew  for sure  that all  of God’s word  in the Bible  is true.     After we have served the LORD here,  according to His truths  in the Bible,  we are assured  of an eternal home  in heaven  with our LORD.

That is why  we can  “serve the LORD  with gladness”  through all our earthly troubles.     As we remember  how Jesus lovingly suffered  and died  to pay  for all our sins,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for keeping us  in Your care.”

Love,
Margaret
