That  He Might  Humble You

The very worst plague  of all mankind  is pride.     We might not realize it  —  but God knows it.     That was Satan’s downfall  — and it is often behind  mankind’s downfall.     We think  we know;  we imagine  we’re smart enough  to make our own way  through this world.     But,  truth be told,  we need God’s guidance  every single step  of the way.

Before entering the Promised Land,  in Deuteronomy 8:2,  the Israelites were taught,

You shall remember  all the way  which the LORD  your God  has led you  in the wilderness  these forty years,  that He might humble youtesting you,  to know  what was  in your heart,  whether you would keep  His commandments  or not.

We all need  to be humbled enough  to realize  that God is in control.     The Israelites definitely  did not make it  through the desert  because of their own smarts.     God fed them manna  and gave them water  from the rock.     God  kept their clothes from wearing out  and their feet  from swelling.

The Israelites needed  to be humbled  into the position  of totally depending  on God  for their needs  in the desert.     We all  need  to be humbled  when we feel  that we want  to grumble.     God allowed  our situation  to develop  that He might test us  “to know  what was  in your heart,  whether you would keep  His commandments  or not”.

So,  Deuteronomy 8:3  shows us that,

He humbled you  and let you be hungry,  and fed you  with manna  which you did not know,  nor did your fathers know,  that He  might make you understand  that man does not live  by bread alone,  but man lives  by everything  that proceeds out  of the mouth  of the LORD.

The LORD is marvelous.     He is teaching us  to trust Him  in our every trial.     Are we learning?

Seeing God’s lesson,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your love  humbles us.”

Love,
Margaret
