That  I May Behold  Wonderful Things

We all like  to see  “wonderful things”.     They bring delight  and joy  to our hearts.     It’s just awesome  to see things  that are so good to us  beyond our imagination.

Because  the psalmist realized  that there were awesome things  about the LORD God Almighty  that most people  were not aware of,  he ardently wanted  to be aware  of the things  of God.     So,  in Psalm 119:18,  the psalmist prayed  to the LORD,

Open my eyes,  that I may behold
Wonderful things  from Your law.

I’m sure God answered his prayer  because of  all the Godly wisdom  that is contained  in his long prayer.     Psalm 119 is the longest psalm  with 176 verses.     Throughout it all,  the psalmist  is totally dependent  on God’s love  and wisdom.     He never sees himself  as smart,  knowledgeable,  or capable.     He always  humbly depends  on God’s mercy,  love,  and faithfulness.

This psalmist showed  that treasuring  all of God’s word  in our hearts  is the wondrous way  to remain  in God’s grace.     That’s because  God’s eternal word  through all the ages  lovingly teaches us  all that is beautiful,  holy,  good,  truthful,  and right  for everyone’s life.     There simply is  no better way  to live.

Our own ways are  so filled  with sin,  greed,  and selfishness,  they stink.     Looking  to the LORD  and His salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus  is the awesome way  that we  may behold wonderful things  from Your law”  —  from all  of God’s holy ways  of being.

That is why Psalm 73:25,  by Asaph, confesses,

Whom  have I  in heaven  but You?
And besides You,  I desire nothing  on earth.

There is nothing better  on earth  than having God  in our hearts.     There we can  behold wonderful things  from Your law”.     There is where  we can know  God’s eternal love  for us.

Rejoicing  in God’s eternal love  through Christ Jesus,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for showing us  Your wonderful love  for us  in our Savior.”

Love,
Margaret
