Beyond  What You Are Able

There are many times  in our lives  when we feel  that we are being tempted  “beyond what you are able”  to endure  and resist.     But,  no matter what we feel,  1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us,

No temptation  has overtaken you  but such  as is common  to man;  and God is faithful,  who will not allow you  to be tempted  beyond what you are able,  but with the temptation  will provide  the way  of escape also,  so that you will be able  to endure it.

Yes,  the temptation  is hard  and we feel cornered,  weak,  and helpless.     But,  when we seriously want  God’s help,  He is “faithful”.     God “will provide  the way  of escape”  —  “you will be able  to endure it”.

Our problem might be  that we really don’t want  to “escape”  the “temptation”.     We just might feel  that we prefer  to ignore  God’s faithful urging.     We just want things our way  for once.     James chapter 4 talks about many different scenarios  that lead us  to not want God’s “faithful” help  to escape.      We all need to study that every once in awhile.     Everybody has fallen  into the trap  of wanting  to satisfy  their own sinful pleasures.     Our motives are sinful because  we are feeling rather hostile  towards God’s ways.

It might help  to think about the temptations faced by Daniel in the lion’s den  —  Shadrach,  Meshach, and Abed-nego in the fiery furnace  —  Jeremiah  as people hated his preaching  —  Stephan  as he was stoned  to death  —  James  as he died by the sword  —  Paul  as he was beaten,  stoned  and imprisoned.

None of them were  in ideal situations  of their own choosing.     But,  they knew  that God was working  all things  for their good  in eternity.

In faith  they let God’s will be done  that their lives might glorify God.     With their faithfulness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for giving us  so many witnesses  of Your eternal salvation.”

Love,
Margaret
