The One Who Desires Life

We all desire  a good, satisfying life  —  even a wonderful, glorious eternal life.     Some think it is due  to them,  no matter how they live  while on earth.     That’s not quite  the case.     The apostle,  Peter,  has told us  what he learned  from Jesus  in 1 Peter 3:10-12.     Peter quotes Psalm 34:12-13,  so this is not something he made up.     Peter says,

The one  who desires life,  to love  and see good days,
Must keep his tongue  from evil  and his lips  from speaking deceit.
He must turn away  from evil  and do good;
He must seek peace  and pursue it.

For the eyes  of the LORD  are toward  the righteous,
And His ears attend  to their prayer,
But the face  of the LORD  is against  those who do evil.

As Peter quoted King David’s psalm,  he was telling the people  to be harmonious,  kindhearted,  and humble  in all their ways.     Instead of being filled  with hateful insults,  we are to be harmonious  —  that is being sympathetic  to the needs  of others.     We are not  to be tearing others down.

Because of Jesus’ merciful love  for us,  we are to do good  to others  —  if we really want  to inherit God’s blessing  of eternal life.     We should not imagine  that we can be nasty  to others  and still be freely given  the blessing  of eternal life.     We are to love others  because we have been loved  by God.     1 John 4:19 says,

We love,  because He first loved us.

In heaven,  everyone is noted  for their faith,  hope,  and love.     Let that be us.

So appreciative  of God’s faithful love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for patiently guiding us  in the right direction  and showing us  the wonders  of Your forgiving love  in Christ Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
