The Secret Things  Belong  to the LORD  Our God

There is so much  we are clueless about  —  things like:  what all  is in my future  –  why am I suffering  this illness  –  will I succeed  in this job  – how will we get through  this natural disaster,  etc.     We don’t know the answers  to any  of these things,  but God does.

Near the end  of Moses’ life,  he spoke  to all the Israelites.     Moses reminded them  of all their hardships  as slaves  in Egypt  and how God always rescued them  with many great miracles.     He reminded them  of how God  took care of them  as they sojourned for forty years  in the desert  and how God promised them  a land flowing  with milk and honey.     Moses also reminded them  of how they must stay true  to the LORD  and not allow idolatry  of any sort  in their land  —  if they wanted  to continue receiving God’s blessings.

Moses also  gave strict warnings  of God’s anger  and judgment  against any  who would turn  to idolatry  and disobedience.     The way  that God dealt with them  over the last forty years  was proof  that God would do  just as He promised.

With all these reminders  and warnings  about disobedience,  Moses knew  that the Israelites wondered  about their future  in the Promised Land.     So,  Moses said  in Deuteronomy 29:29,

The secret things belong  to the LORD  our God,  but the things revealed  belong to us  and to our sons  forever,  that we may observe  all the words  of this law.

God doesn’t let us know  “the secret things”  because only God’s wisdom  and love  are able  to handle them.     But,  God has “revealed” many things  to us all  in His word  —  the Bible  —  and that word  of God  is ours “forever”.     We are  to daily use God’s word  to guide us  through this life  and lead us  to eternal life.     God’s word  is no “secret”.

Guided by God’s eternal word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for staying near  in Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
