A False Balance  Is  an Abomination  to the LORD

We all like  to be treated fairly  and squarely.     It hurts  to have anyone purposely cheating us.     And yet,   casinos  and gambling places  are rigged  to make the owner  of the casino  the real winner  of piles  of money,  while smugly chuckling  at all the hopeful gamblers.      Cheating has been going on  since the beginning  of time.     In businesses,  items of cheaper quality  are sold  for a higher price.     Food is packaged  in smaller quantities  for the price  of a larger quantity.          The  “fine print”  in contracts  makes the buyer  a loser.     Housing prices  are jacked up  to ridiculous amounts  supposedly due  to “inflation”,  and then suddenly drop,  causing people  to lose their homes  and go bankrupt.

There are a number  of Bible verses  that speak  to this “hidden” greed  in all sorts  of businesses.     One can think of,

A false balance  is an abomination  to the LORD,
But  a just weight  is His delight.
    Proverbs 11:1

You shall not have  in your bag  differing weights,  a large  and a small.     Deuteronomy 25:13

Cursed is he  who moves  his neighbor’s boundary mark.     Deuteronomy 27:17

“Buyer beware” has had  to always be  in the back  of one’s mind.     And yet,  there are many  who glibly and confidently gamble away  their life savings  in the hope  of striking it rich  at some rigged casino  or gambling opportunity.     Many buy  the cheapest product  they can get,  in hopes  of getting a “good buy”.     Many pay no attention  to the smaller packaging  of the foods they buy  for more money.     And,  many insist  on buying homes at inflated prices  —  just hoping  it will work out  somehow.

The LORD absolutely detests  every cheater  and will condemn them all  for all eternity.     We just need  to be more aware  of the cheaters  in this world,  and prayerfully live  in honesty  and fairness  to God’s glory.

With open eyes  to God’s righteous ways  in every aspect  of life,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  always lead us  day by day.”

Love,
Margaret
