Who Then  Is This?

The disciples  had many puzzlements  during the three years  they followed Jesus on earth  —  learning from Him  —  watching Him heal many  and preach God’s word.      With all that,  there was one miracle  that really made them wonder.

As Jesus and His disciples were crossing  the Sea of Galilee,  Jesus fell asleep  in the boat.     Then a fierce storm came up  and started filling the boat  with water.     They were bound  to sink  and woke Jesus, saying  in Mark 4:38,

Teacher,  do You not care  that we are perishing?

When Jesus commanded the wind,  “Hush,  be still”,  it immediately stopped.     Jesus then asked the disciples,  “Why are you afraid?     Do you still  have no faith?”     After seeing so many other miracles,  the disciples  had never considered  that as God,  Jesus was also able  to control  the storm.

Mark 4:41  then records,

They became very much afraid  and said  to one another,  “Who then is this,  that even the wind  and the sea obey Him?”

People today might wonder  the same.     We come upon situations  that make us very fearful,  but somehow  God wondrously guides us through it all.     We’ve seen all sorts  of prophecies  about the Savior  throughout the Old Testament.     They all came true  to the smallest detail  in Jesus.     So,  we ask ourselves,  “‘Who then  is this’  that every single prophecy  about a Savior  all came true  in Him?”

“Who then  is this”  guiding us  through this life?     Peter gave the answer  in Matthew 16:16,

You are the Christ,  the Son  of the living God.

Our lives  are filled  with different kinds  of storms.     In our fearfulness,  Jesus asks,  “Why are you afraid?     Do you still have no faith?”     Let us always trust  our Savior,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for promising  to never leave us.”

Love,
Margaret
