The Mind  Set on the Flesh  Is Hostile  Toward God

There are many  who claim  to be Christian,  but live totally  according to the ways  of this world.     They habitually lie,  con others,  and  arrogantly assert  their worldly ways  as right.     Christians might  be baffled  as to how they should think  about an honest Christian life.

Because we live  in a dangerous world  of much sin,  we need  to consider the life  of those  who claim  to be Christian,  but don’t really act  as we know  a Christian should act.     Anybody can “claim”  to be a Christian.      1 John 2:5-6  identifies Christians by saying,

Whoever keeps His word,  in him  the love  of God  has truly been perfected.     By this we know  that we are  in Him:   the one who says  he abides  in Him  ought himself  to walk  in the same manner  as He walked.

That’s quite the test  for all  of us.     All of us  are sinners,  but for those  who lovingly strive  to live for Christ,  Romans 8:1 says,

There is now  no condemnation  for those  who are  in Christ Jesus.

We are free  from “condemnation” when we trust  in Jesus  and strive  to live  for Him  —  not for the world.     Some might pretend  to be Christian,  but their lives  do not show  a love for God.     Romans 8:7  says,

The mind  set  on the flesh  is hostile  toward God.

In other words,  one cannot love God  and the ways  of this world  at the same time.     We need  to let all  of God’s ways  guide us  —  not just some chosen things.     We need  to watch ourselves  and the things  we approve of  in this world.

Guided  by all  of God’s eternal word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  guide us  through Your word,  so that our lives  will actually glorify  You only.”

Love,
Margaret
