Rejoice  With Trembling

Psalm 2:11  gives us  a solemn direction,

Worship  the LORD  with reverence
And  rejoice  with trembling.

How can one honestly  “rejoice”  with fearful reverence  and “trembling”?     All  of Psalm 2  tells us.     First it tells  how all sorts  of world leaders  and worldly people hate  to obey the LORD,  our Savior.     They want  to do everything  in their power  to cut off  and throw away  God’s authority  over them.     We see that  even today.     But,  they can’t,  because God is  the Creator  of all things.     They can’t even breathe  without God’s allowance  of their next breath.

So,  God laughs  at their silliness  and reminds everyone  that He  has set up  Jesus Christ  as King  over all  —  and no one can change  that truth.     God advises everyone  to use their common sense  and notice  the vast differences  between them  and their Creator.     Realizing these differences  should be a warning  that we really do need  to consider the truths  about who God is  and who we are.

God set up Christ Jesus  as our Savior  and King.     So,  Jesus lovingly  washes away  all  of our sins  when we turn  to Him  —  and then,  as our loving Savior,  He also  rules over us  as King.     We made Him King  in our hearts.     As our King,  Jesus wants us  to live  in faith,  hope,  and love.     Our faith trusts  in our LORD  even through tough times.     Our hope looks  to eternal life  in heaven  with our LORD.     Our love  directs all our thinking  and actions  towards God  and our fellowmen.

Such are  a few aspects  of the wondrous blessing  of Jesus  as our Savior  and King.     That is why  we will naturally  “Worship the LORD  with reverence  and rejoice  with trembling.”     We will truly respect  God  as our LORD  and King.     Seeing His wondrous,  faithful love  for us,  we will sincerely  “rejoice  with trembling”.     It’s more than awesome  that God Almighty truly loves  the likes  of us.     It’s a thrill.

Rejoicing,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for wanting us.”

Love,
Margaret
