Do Not Be Overcome  By Evil

Some people have a tendency  to take revenge  any time  they feel offended  or slighted  by another.     They will remain hateful,  bitter,  and vindictive  the rest  of their lives  —  to the point  of  bringing God’s judgment  upon themselves.     They allow themselves  to become evil.     In other words,  they allow Satan  to rule their hearts  and actions.

That is losing total control  of our lives.     Instead,  they should think  about Romans 12:17-21,

Do not repay anyone  evil for evil.     Be careful  to do  what is right  in the eyes  of everyone.     If it is possible,  as far as it depends  on you,  live at peace  with everyone.     Do not take revenge,  my dear friends,  but leave room  for God’s wrath,  for it is written:  “It is mine  to avenge;  I will repay,”  says the Lord.     On the contrary:

“If your enemy  is hungry,  feed him;
if he is thirsty,  give him something  to drink.
In doing this,  you will heap burning coals  on his head.”

Do not be overcome  by evil,  but overcome evil  with good.

God’s word is telling us  that it is much better  to leave everything  in God’s almighty hands.     He knows how to  “avenge”  and  “repay”  rightly,  according to the in-depth truth  of the situation.     God’s judgment  is eternal.     Our perspective  on any given situation  can be very flawed,  so that even our anger  can be very unreasonable.

So,  when we’re hurt  by someone,  we are  to trust God  to set things straight.     He’ll do a lot better job  of taking care  of us  than we can imagine  —  whether it’s  in this life  or eternity.     Our job is  to be righteous,  loving,  kind,  and good  with our whole heart,  as we trust  God’s love  for us.

Then,  in the peace  of God’s faithful love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for being  our Savior  and Redeemer.”

Love,
Margaret
