He  Whose Transgression  Is Forgiven

When King David wrote Psalm 32,  he described  how his sin  plagued his whole being  as he tried  to hide  his sin.     Then when he finally  confessed  his sin  and received God’s forgiveness,  he was free  to rejoice  and be glad again.     That is why David  began Psalm 32   by saying,

How blessed  is he  whose transgression  is forgiven,
Whose sin  is covered!
How blessed  is the man  to whom the LORD  does not impute iniquity,
And  in whose spirit  there is no deceit!

Our sins  —  our “transgressions”  —  are surely forgiven  when we honestly confess them  wholly  to the LORD,  trusting Him  to keep His promise  of forgiveness.     So, 1 John 1:9  tells us,

If we confess  our sins,  He is faithful  and righteous  to forgive us our sins  and to cleanse us  from all unrighteousness.

Forgiveness  has been a promise  of God  from the beginning.     There are many Old Testament prophecies  of a Savior  who would take away  all our sins  —  and the New Testament  shows how all those prophecies  were faithfully fulfilled  in Jesus.     The Apostle Peter  preached this  in Acts 10:43,

Of Him  all the prophets  bear witness  that through His name  everyone who believes  in Him  receives forgiveness  of sins.

All we need to do  is look  at the facts  in history,  believe  in Jesus,  confess our sins,  and accept His promise  of forgiveness.

There is a great relief  and blessedness  in letting God wash away  all our sins  through the merits  of Christ Jesus.     Believing in Jesus,  we are made  truly righteous,  holy,  and pure  —  worthy of our home  in heaven.     It’s Jesus’ righteousness,  suffering,  death,  and resurrection  that has the power  to forgive all our sins.

Resting  in Jesus’ trustworthiness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for the gift  of forgiveness.”

Love,
Margaret
