So You Are a King?

So You Are a King?
When Jesus was put on trial before Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, where Jerusalem was located, Pilate questioned Jesus about whether or not He was the King of the Jews. John 18:36-38 then records,
Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”
Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?”
Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?”
It had to be a mind boggling moment for Pilate to try and grasp the idea of this lowly preacher claiming to be the King of a different “realm“. That certainly was not a crime. And, it was true that Jesus’ followers were not fighting to rescue Him.
We Christians today are not fighting a physical war to “assure” that Jesus will hold His throne in heaven. We boldly proclaim the truth that Jesus is “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19:16), but we don’t physically fight over it because Jesus is “King” in the heavenly “realm”.
Jesus was “born” “into the world” to fulfill the truth of many Old Testament prophecies. It is good to see and understand that “truth”. When someone questions us, we follow 1 Peter 3:15,
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
Following our King, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord Jesus, thank you for opening our eyes to Your truth.”
Love,
Margaret
