In the Seat of Scoffers
In the Seat of Scoffers
Join the crowd! — or so they say. It seems to be pretty popular these days to be with those “in the seat of scoffers”. All around the world are those who mock and tear down Christian morality, principles, and beliefs. The “politically correct” and twisted ways of this world are being upheld as being “right” — even as they deny the religious and human rights of Christians.
Even judicial systems are so politically correct that they are denying Christians their religious liberties — making a mockery of everything that is right and good in God’s eyes. But, as bold as they are for now, God’s word has something to say about these situations. Psalm 1:1-6 says,
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish.
God’s children have always had to face the “scoffers” of this world. As we look through the history of the Bible and the history of this world, God has always eventually blown the “scoffers” away “like chaff”. They have their day of belligerently mocking God’s children and persecuting them, but they will never “stand in the judgment”. In the end, absolutely no unbeliever will be able to “stand” “in the assembly of the righteous” in heaven.
God’s children can rejoice that our Savior is righteous and just in all His judgments for eternity. God knows us all. He will prosper His faithful through all eternity, so we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for showing us Your righteousness in Christ Jesus.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
