Touch Me

Sometimes  our understanding  comes slowly  as we gradually absorb  what we’re seeing.     That’s how it was  upon Jesus’ resurrection.     The disciples  were trying  to figure out  the reports  of others  who had “seen” Jesus.     It was hard  to imagine,  so Luke 24:36-42  then records,

While they were telling these things,  He Himself stood  in their midst  and said  to them,  “Peace be  to you.”

But they were startled  and frightened  and thought  that they were seeing a spirit.

And He said  to them,  “Why are you troubled,  and why do doubts arise  in your hearts?     See My hands  and My feet,  that it is I Myself;  touch Me  and see,  for a spirit  does not have flesh  and bones  as you see  that I have.”

And when He had said this,  He showed them  His hands  and His feet.     While they still could not believe it  because of their joy  and amazement,  He said  to them,  “Have you anything here  to eat?”

They gave Him  a piece  of a broiled fish;  and He took it  and ate it  before them.

So,  what do we understand  about Jesus’ resurrection?     Do we truly realize  that Jesus’ resurrection means  that all  who believe  in Him  will have eternal life?     A believer’s eternal life  is filled  with real joy,  glory,  and every wondrous thing there is  in God’s presence.     We can be assured  of this because Jesus is the fulfillment  of so many Old Testament prophecies.     That is why 1 John 1:1-3  says,

What was  from the beginning,  what we have heard,  what we have seen  with our eyes,  what we have looked at  and touched  with our hands,  concerning  the Word  of Life  —  and the life  was manifested,  and we have seen  and testify  and proclaim  to you  the eternal life,  which was  with the Father  and was manifested  to us  —  what we have seen  and heard  we proclaim  to you also,  so that you too  may have fellowship  with us;  and indeed  our fellowship is  with the Father,  and with His Son Jesus Christ.

To have fellowship  with our LORD  and Savior,  we need  to realize  the amazing  free gift  of eternal life  He wants to give us.

Touching  God’s love  in His eternal word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for proving  the authenticity  of Your eternal word  through history.”

Love,
Margaret
