In the Innermost Being
In the Innermost Being
Psychologists have noted that many people are accustomed to really believing their own lies. They quickly fabricate false reasonings and justifications for their blatant lies to defend themselves, to the point where they could even take a lie detector test showing their comfort in believing and standing up for their own lies.
Because the LORD is the God of truth and all righteousness, He can never approve of any lie. Knowing that, when King David confessed his grievous sin of adultery, in true repentance, he said to God in Psalm 51:6,
Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being,
And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.
In other words, God desires “truth” so much that He will “make” His children “know” the “wisdom” of telling the truth. God makes His children feel the sting of guilt so that they will “know wisdom” in telling the truth — instead of solidifying themselves in lies.
Jesus explained the problem of habitual lying. He said in John 8:44,
You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Sadly, that is a truth we always need to be aware of in this sinful world.
Knowing that, the psalmist, Asaph, said to God in Psalm 73:25-26,
Whom have I in heaven but You?
And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Desiring God’s truth in our “innermost being”, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for showing us Your wisdom in our times of being challenged. Let our desire always be for Your truth.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
