I Will Not  Rule  Over You

In the account  of Gideon’s life  (Judges 6-8),  Gideon humbly followed  God’s directions  and freed the Israelites  from the power  of the Midianites.     In gratefulness,  the Israelites  wanted  to make Gideon  their king.     But,  that was an abominable suggestion  in Gideon’s heart.     In Judges 8:23,  Gideon replied,

I will not  rule  over younor shall  my son  rule over you;  the LORD  shall rule over you.

Gideon humbly  had it right.     God alone  is the real King of kings  and Lord  of lords.     He always has been  —  and He always will be.     There simply is  no other  worthy king  in anyone’s life.     To set things right  in this world,  everyone needs  to look  to the LORD only  as their King  and ruler  —  as Gideon did.

The Israelites got into  many deep problems  as they kept turning  to sinful mankind  to lead them.     No matter  what sort  of government  we might live under,  we need  to be aware  that every earthly government  is only a temporary thing.     When everything  is said  and done,  there is only one  “King  of kings  and Lord  of lords”  —  and that is  Christ Jesus.     (Revelation 19:16)

We let Jesus rule  in our hearts  and minds  by learning  His word  and abiding by it.     Then,  by faith,  hope,  and love  we will live  to God’s glory  —  instead of mankind’s pretentious glory.

Ever so glad  for the true King  in our hearts,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD Jesus,  thank You  for winning the victory  over sin  for us.     May we always know You  as our eternal LORD  and King.”

Love,
Margaret
