Regular, everyday sunlight gives life. It gives life to all sorts of plants through the process of photosynthesis. It gives a healthy life to all sorts of animals, promoting strong bones and a good vascular system — not to mention giving each one of us an all-over healthy life. It has been noted that many people become depressed and sickly without enough sunlight. We can even say no sunlight — equals no plant life — equals no food for us — and no food for many animals.
We need light to live.
Light is also what we must have to get around in darkness. Stumbling around in darkness can be downright dangerous. With all these facts in mind, Jesus shows that it is absolutely vital for us to have spiritual light — if we want to live eternally. Since we are rather blinded by the darkness of all the sin we live in, Jesus says to us in John 8:12,
I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Jesus is so much more than the light that shows us the way through this dark world of sin. Like the sun that gives us light to see where we are going and also gives life to plants — Jesus lights up our way through this dark world of sin and also gives us eternal life.
There is no eternal life without Jesus. Nothing can substitute for Jesus.
All sorts of people in this world will claim that they have spiritual light — that they know how to be good enough for heaven all by themselves — that they have had spiritual experiences that have shown them they are on the right track to eternal life as they understand it. But, that is not so because Jesus says in John 14:6,
I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.
Since Jesus has proven through many prophecies that He is the Savior, it would be wise to open our eyes to the facts He sets before us. Let Him be our Light. Only Jesus can give us life — and He gives it freely to all who put their faith in Him.
With Jesus giving us “the light of life”, we can also sing with King David in Psalm 56:13,
You have delivered my soul from death,
Indeed my feet from stumbling,
So that I may walk before God
In the light of the living.
We will live when we let Jesus give us His light of salvation. What a relief it is to get some Light! With Jesus as our “light of life”, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, it is so good to walk in Your light and know the goodness of Your salvation.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
