Love Does Not  Act Unbecomingly

We seem  to be living  in a time  when arrogance  is approved of  as being “confident”,  “self-assertive”,  and “necessary”  to being successful.     But,  truth be said,  arrogance  is ripping people apart  and  is most often  evil  and slanderous.     It hatefully  destroys many  for no good reason.     God’s word  has often enough  declared arrogance  to earn eternal judgment.

Out of respect  for God’s love  for us,  we need  to consider  1 Corinthians 13:4-6,

Love is patient,  love is kind  and is not jealous;  love does not brag  and is not arrogant,  does not act unbecomingly;  it does not seek its own,  is not provoked,  does not take  into account  a wrong suffered,  does not rejoice  in unrighteousness,  but rejoices  with the truth…….

Compare this word  of God  with all  that is going on  in today’s world.     We need  to ask ourselves,  “Why is this world  so unkind,  jealous,  bragging,  arrogant,  and acting totally “unbecomingly”?     Unbelief  in our Creator Redeemer  leads people  to  “act unbecomingly”.     Unbelief leads to eternal death  because it is loveless  and denies God’s truths.

Those who believe  in God’s authority,  power,  and salvation  in Christ Jesus  will pay close attention  to Proverbs 21:23-24,

He  who guards  his mouth  and his tongue,
Guards his soul  from troubles.
“Proud,”  “Haughty,”  “Scoffer,”  are his names,
Who acts  with insolent pride.

These truths  are described  in many other Biblical contexts.     It’s like,  “Watch yourself!”     “What is really,  really  in your heart  and mind  when you approve  of arrogant acts?”

When we guard our  “mouth”  and “tongue”,  we are guarding  our souls  from troubles.     We are stopping  our sinful tendency  to approve of pride,  haughtiness,  and scoffing  —  all of which  will  bring down  God’s eternal condemnation.     God’s children  should know  what sorts  of acts  are unbecoming.

Filled  with awe  for God’s love  and patience  towards us,  we say,  Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for lovingly watching over us  and guiding us  in Your righteousness.”

Love,
Margaret
