Contend Earnestly  For the Faith

As mere humans,  we have many weaknesses.     We can be so excited  over something  —  and then,  as time wears on,  we just don’t  give it  much thought.     Other interests  get our attention.     In all sorts of things  going on  in this world,  that is most likely okay.     But,  when it comes  to an eternal truth,  we really should stick to it  —  and strongly  stand up  for it.

That’s exactly what Jude was concerned about  in Jude 1:3.     He said,

……. I felt the necessity  to write  to you  appealing  that you contend earnestly  for the faith  which was once for all  handed down  to the saints.

Even way back then  as Jude wrote this,  there were many false preachers  trying to tear down  the gospel  of Jesus’ godhood,  innocent life,  suffering,  death,  and resurrection.     Even though false preachers and false prophets  will mislead many,  God’s truths  will still endure forever.     A couple of the Bible’s  many verses confirming this are:

Forever,  O LORD,
Your word  is settled  in heaven.
     Psalm 119:89

…….for you have been born again  not of seed  which is perishable  but imperishable,  that is,  through the living  and enduring word  of God.     1 Peter 1:23

This is something to think about  and remember.     God’s word is  imperishable.     It is forever  “settled  in heaven”.

All those  who claim  that God’s word  is changing  —  or was lost  are false preachers.     God is almighty.     His holy word is  imperishable.     God’s word is  “the living  and enduring word”.     Wicked people  will make false claims  and try  to rewrite  the Bible,  but God’s actual word is imperishable.     God has shown us that  with the ancient manuscripts  that prove His word  is intact.

This is why  it is important for all Christians  to  “contend earnestly  for the faith”  as it is stated   in the Bible.     We have the eternal word  of God  in many translations  that meet the needs  of many cultures.     Those true translations  have not changed  the meaning  of the original word  of God.     By studying true translations  (not interpretations),  we can be assured  of knowing  God’s word  to us.

Rejoicing in God’s power  to keep His word eternally,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your eternal assurances.     Now we know  what we are contending for.”

Love,
Margaret
