The LORD Preserves

The LORD Preserves

When we are truly honest  in looking  at ourselves,  we need  to admit that there are times  we’ve done some dumb things.     They are things  we’d rather forget about.     We have to admit  that we really  weren’t thinking straight  at the time  and were just too caught up  in the moment  with our wayward desires.     We all do foolish things  and we all  need guidance.

God knows how we are.     We are often called  His little lambs  and His beloved children.     God greatly desires  to show us  the right way  and we need to listen  to His advice.     If we refuse  to listen  to our Creator  and heavenly Father,  we can end up  in more trouble  than we ever thought possible.      Our imaginations cannot envision  all the problems  we can bring  upon ourselves,  just because  we didn’t listen  to the wisdom  of God.

If we always remember  how very much  we need God’s guidance  and put our faith  in His eternal wisdom,  we have a special promise  from God  in Psalm 116:5-6,

Gracious is the LORD,  and righteous;
Yes,  our God is compassionate.
The LORD preserves  the simple;
I was brought low,  and He saved me.

This psalmist realized  that he had weaknesses  and needed  to depend  on the LORD.     In life’s problems,  he was made  to face distress  and sorrow  —  just like we do.     But,  “simple” as he was,  he remembered  that he could turn  to the Lord  for the help  he needed.     So,  he did the right thing.     In verse 4 he called out,

O LORD,  I beseech You,  save my life!

The word “simple” in Hebrew includes the description  of one  who is easily persuaded  or enticed  —  someone who tends  to believe others  too readily.     It is often translated as “naive” or “too open-minded”.      We’ve all been there — done that.     That is why  this psalmist  was wise  in turning to the LORD  for help.     He admitted  to the LORD  that he was helpless  and trusted  in the LORD  to hear his supplications.

In all  of our simplicity  as God’s dear children,  let us always remember  that our heavenly Father  still greatly desires  for us  to turn  to Him  for the help  we desperately need.     Let us never  be too ashamed  to turn  to the Lord,  who is always faithful  in His love  towards us.     God is not asking  too much  of us  when He desires  to help us  in our needs.

The psalmist  received the help  he needed  and was ever so glad  to render  to the LORD  the very best  of his thanksgiving  in the presence  of all God’s people.     He was so glad  he turned  to the LORD.     We can be glad,  too.

As we daily turn  to our Savior,  as His own dear children,  let us depend  on His love  to help us  in all our needs  and say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord, You are always so faithful,  even when we have strayed  and disregarded You.     Thank You  for always calling us  Your own  dear children.”

Love,
Margaret
