The Works of Your Hands
The Works Of Your Hands
How we love to look at what we’ve accomplished and proclaim, “I did that!” And, we’re given just so much more reason to be proud when someone else pats us on the back and exclaims, “Good job! You are so talented in everything you do.”
It all shows our desire to be approved of and victorious over all odds. But somehow, it’s strangely hollow. There’s still something missing. We ponder all the struggles we endured — with troubled feelings, we think about how much we really needed help and guidance — we try to dismiss all the things that really still are not right or well-done. There was a lot of stumbling going on. Was it honestly something well-done, even though someone else is now patting us on the back and assuring us that it is?
Maybe the problem is that the Lord was not in any of that work. It does not feel right because God was not sought out for help and guidance.
We are all a part of God’s creation. He created us as beings that must depend on Him for all of our needs and desires. Most of the world disregards their need to lean on the Lord, and because they reject God’s guidance, they will pay for that rejection in eternity. They will mull their way through this world, doing all they can to build themselves up and pat themselves on the back. But, when it comes down to the nitty-gritty of reality, they are as nothing and all their work is as nothing. It will all be destroyed on Judgment Day.
Only what is done with the Lord will last through eternity.
The things done with the Lord will obviously be things done to please Him. They will acknowledge that the Lord is God and that there is no other God. The things done with the Lord in mind are all things that will cause one to thank God for all that He does to work His salvation in us and help us do what is right and good in His eyes.
There is peace and joy when one works with the Lord — instead of against Him.
That is why the psalmist wrote in Psalm 92:4-5,
For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done,
I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.
How great are Your works, O LORD!
Your thoughts are very deep.
When we let God work through us and guide us, it becomes what “He” has done. What God has done will always truly be good. We look at God’s wisdom in all that He has made throughout all of creation. That wisdom is so far beyond our imagination and ability that it is only common sense to go to the Lord for all the help we need. We are His creation and He greatly desires that we always go to Him for all our needs and desires. In addition to all that, the Lord is our Savior from all our sin. He wants us to come to Him for forgiveness.
If we are too proud to go to the LORD for forgiveness, we have got a serious problem. But, in spite of such a problem, God is still greatly desiring that we turn back to Him, so that He can help us in our needs. God is still being faithful in calling us. We can still turn to Him while we have breath. If we continue to refuse His love and salvation, it may get to be too late.
God’s thoughts towards us are very deep. We cannot comprehend the greatness of His love and sacrifice on our behalf. But, we can remember at least some of what He has done and let those things bring us joy and thankful hearts that do include God in our lives.
Let us turn to God and thank Him for His lovingkindness and faithfulness. Then we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, it is good to give thanks to You for Your faithful love and grace. You do all things well. Work Your truths into our hearts, so that we may sing your praises forever.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
