But  As Many As Received Him

When a person  accepts Jesus Christ  as their Savior  from sin,  things are happening  that one might be unaware of.     In accepting Jesus  as our Savior,  we might only be thinking  of how all our sins  are washed away.     That’s true.     But,  there is more taking place  and it goes way back  to the time of Abraham  —  more than 2,000 years  before Christ.

It goes back  to when Abraham was 99 years old,  and the LORD promised Abraham  in Genesis 17:4,

As for Me,  behold,  My covenant  is with you,
And you  will be  the father  of a multitude  of nations.

We see it today, thousands of years later  —  people from  “a multitude  of nations”  have become Christians  and put their faith  in Jesus  for their eternal salvation.     So,  God’s word  to Abraham came true.     Abraham  was saved  because he believed God  —  we are saved  when we believe God.     By faith,  we are now  just like Abraham  in believing  —  so,  it’s like Abraham  is our father  in faith  — we believe God  as Abraham did.

It does not matter  what nation  we are from.     When we honestly believe,  we are  like Abraham —  saved by faith.     So,  John 1:12 assures us,

But  as many as received Him,  to them  He gave  the right  to become  children of God,  even to those  who believe  in His name.

Abraham was  a child  of God  —  we,  by faith,  are  “children  of God”  —  just because we  “believe  in His name”.     There is nothing more special  than that.

Jesus teaches us  in Mark 16:16,

He who has believed  and has been baptized  shall be saved;  but he who has disbelieved  shall be condemned.

Let us hold strongly  to the true faith  —  just as God Almighty  has given it  to us  in His word,  the Bible.     We are not  to change  one little bit  of it,  but learn  and treasure  exactly what God teaches us  in the totality  of His word.

Then,  rejoicing  in all  of God’s eternal truths,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for making us  Your dearly beloved children.”

Love,
Margaret
