Is It  By Your Understanding?

Job,  a very righteous man  in the Old Testament days,  had great afflictions,  one after the other.     He had been rich,  but in a short time  he lost all his children,  cattle,  donkeys,  sheep,  servants,  camels,  and health.     Though totally devastated,  he humbly confessed  in Job 1:21,

Naked I came  from my mother’s womb,
And naked I shall return there.
The LORD gave  and the LORD  has taken away.
Blessed be  the name  of the LORD.

His confession  was true and heartfelt.     But,  as he kept suffering  with sore boils  and his friends constantly claiming  that his suffering was the result  of his sins,  Job questioned  God’s treatment  of him.     Things just didn’t seem fair.     Job complained.     Finally,  in Job 39:26,  the LORD  asked Job,

Is it by your understanding  that the hawk soars,
Stretching his wings  toward the south?

That’s what we need  to remember  and seriously think about  when we have  to go through all sorts  of trials  and tribulations.     We cannot understand why  all these bad things happen to us  when we are doing our best  to live  to God’s glory.     But,  we know  that only  by God’s wisdom  all things were created.     Every single thing  in creation  is an awesome thing  that we could never have imagined  —  let alone  have the power  to create.     And…  everything has a purpose  according to God’s will.

With our total lack  of “understanding”,  we need  to remember  what the love  and wisdom  of the LORD  has done  in all creation.     God’s wisdom  has created  a place  that helps  to provide  for our needs  —  everything from the seasons  created by orbits  through the heavens  to the microbes  that replenish  the soils  —  not to mention  the Savior,  who takes away  all our sins.     That is love  and care.     So,  we trust  and praise the LORD.

Humbly acknowledging God’s loving wisdom  and power  for our lives,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  create  in us  clean hearts  and right spirits  that always praise  Your saving love.”

Love,
Margaret
