Our Sins
Our sins can be very troublesome. We cannot make them go away with ever so many acts of penance. We can’t hide them from God’s all-seeing eyes. We cannot eventually pay for them after eons of time in some sort of purgatory or place of a second chance. And……. we cannot stop doing them. We can try with all our might, but we still find ourselves sinning in thoughts, words, and deeds.
We cannot do anything about our sins — but God can and did in Christ Jesus. In spite of what God has done for everyone in Christ, there are still religious groups and individuals who claim Jesus cannot cleanse us from absolutely all of our sins. They are self-righteously calling God Almighty a liar. How so?
God’s eternal word plainly and repeatedly tell us all that He — and He alone — can and does take away all of our sins when we believe and trust in Jesus. Just a few examples are:
Iniquities prevail against me;
As for our transgressions, You forgive them. Psalm 65:3Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins. Acts 10:43
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Why should anyone deny the truths of forgiveness that are so often repeated in God’s word? Are they counting on the people to not read God’s word? Do they want to assert power over the lives of other people?
In place of that, we are able to read God’s word for ourselves and rejoice in His truths. We don’t have to allow any mere sinner to have control over God’s truths for our lives. It’s as Peter and the apostles told the religious leaders in Acts 5:29,
We must obey God rather than men.
As we live in the freedom of God’s eternal word, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, thank You for setting us free from all our sins.”
Love,
Margaret
