I Know  Whom  I Have Believed

Over the years  one notices changes  taking place.     Years ago,  when there was  a disaster  of any sort,  the people turned  to God  in prayer.     Now,  more and more often  government officials  of various rankings  bring in paid psychologists  and social workers  of different sorts  to “comfort” people  and help them “buck up”  under their trials.

People are depending more and more  on the government  and social workers  to solve their problems.     What happened  to God?     Isn’t He able  to help us anymore?     Are people becoming ashamed  to turn  to God?

When the apostle Paul  suffered many things  while preaching the gospel,  he always turned  to God only.     Paul was not afraid  of showing his faith  in front of unbelievers,  Roman officials,  or angry Jewish religious leaders.     When Paul shared  his faith  with the young preacher,  Timothy,  he wrote  in 2 Timothy 1:12-14,

I am not ashamed;  for I know  whom I have believed  and I am convinced  that He is able  to guard  what I have entrusted  to Him  until that day.     Retain the standard  of sound words  which you have heard  from me,  in the faith  and love  which are  in Christ Jesus.     Guard,  through the Holy Spirit,  who dwells  in us,  the treasure  which has been entrusted  to you.

Paul prayed  in front of unbelievers  and often  positively stood up  for Jesus Christ  as the one-and-only Savior.    God brought him through  many sufferings,  beatings,  stoning,  and imprisonments.     In all  of his troubles,  Paul  was “convinced”  through the eternal word  of God  that God would work all things  for his good  in the end.

So,  instead of troubles weakening his faith  —  troubles made his faith stronger,  as God’s word worked in his heart.     He realized  that God was his only strength  —  not other people  or his own wherewithal.

We,  too,  have the treasure  of God’s word.     Let us use it  to strengthen us  in God’s eternal truths.

Convinced  of God’s truths,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for keeping us  day after day.”

Love,
Margaret
