What Is Falsely Called “Knowledge”
As we surf the Internet, we see a lot of “what is falsely called ‘knowledge'”. Much of it is simply opinions that are not based on facts. Some of it is misinformation based on someone else’s misinformation. Accepting such misinformation as truth can be based on many factors, such as liking the format of the website that presented it — having friends who liked it — or just thinking it sounds nice.
There have been problems with “what is falsely called ‘knowledge'” since the beginning of time. We can think of how Eve was deceived by Satan in the Garden of Eden. Becoming like God just sounded nice and good. She could not imagine the problems she started with that false “knowledge”. All sorts of sins have multiplied with that first acceptance of false “knowledge”.
In the early New Testament times that false “knowledge” came in the form of false preachers making up their own versions of what the gospel should be. Although they confidently spoke like know-it-alls, their pretentious gospels led people away from God’s truths and salvation. For that reason, the apostle Paul warned Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:20-21,
O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge” which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith.
Grace be with you.
We, too, need to guard God’s word as given to us in the Bible. We must avoid all the “worldly and empty chatter” that is often found in books and the media of all sorts as they present New Age ideas for prayer, meditation, wellness, mental peace, etc., etc. All these false teachers are leading many “astray from the faith”. Those who are not of the true faith as given to us in God’s word (the Bible) will not get to heaven.
We cannot learn the truths of God’s word if we don’t open up our Bibles and learn from God.
Thankful for having God’s word, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, teach us Your ways.”
Love,
Margaret
