Be Angry, and Yet Do Not Sin
There are so many frustrating things in life, that are way beyond our ability to cope with, that we tend to quickly resort to anger. We need to rethink those natural tendencies, because they can easily lead us into sins that bring God’s judgment down on us also. The apostle Paul tells us that when we’re confronted with the lies of others, we are to simply strongly speak the truth. Then he adds in Ephesians 4:26,
Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.
Why shouldn’t we build up our righteous anger? Paul tells us our anger gives the devil an opportunity to easily tempt us into grievous sins. We shouldn’t want to anger God with our sins. There are so many factors in every situation that we don’t know about. So, our anger cannot be based on a full knowledge of every little detail.
But — God knows absolutely all things. That is why only God can give the right judgment at the right time. That is why Paul tells us in Romans 12:19,
Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord.
Our job is to trust our righteous, all-knowing LORD of lords to take the right kind of “vengeance” for us. He will do a much better and more righteous job of it than we can ever imagine. It will all be in His time and authority. There are many Bible verses in this regard. One is Deuteronomy 32:35, where God says,
Vengeance is Mine, and retribution,
In due time their foot will slip;
For the day of their calamity is near,
And the impending things are hastening upon them.
We don’t have anything to worry about when we let God be our Caretaker. Trusting our Savior to carry us through troublesome times, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, Your faithful love is our treasure.”
Love,
Margaret
