Sparrows and Fear

Sparrows  and Fear

Many Christians are afraid  to admit  their faith,  for fear  of being looked down upon  as a nut  —  for fear  of some sort  of persecution  —  or for fear  of losing friends.     But,  Jesus told us  to not be afraid  because people did those same things  to Him.     Evil people  have been killing God’s children  from the beginning  —  but they can only kill one’s earthly body.     They are totally unable  to kill  one’s soul.

Instead  of being afraid  of evil people,  Jesus taught  that we should fear  and respect the LORD,  “who is able  to destroy both soul  and body  in hell”.     Then Jesus went on  to teach  in Matthew 10:29-33,

Are not two sparrows sold  for a cent?     And yet  not one  of them  will fall  to the ground apart  from your Father.     But  the very hairs  of your head  are all numbered.     So  do not fear;  you are more valuable  than many sparrows.

Therefore  everyone  who confesses Me  before men,  I will also confess him  before My Father  who is in heaven.   But  whoever denies Me  before men,  I will also deny him  before My Father  who is  in heaven.

Think about that.     God is caring  for every single sparrow  —  even as they “fall  to the ground”.     We are unaware  of what is taking place  as God cares  for them,  but we need  to know  that they are  in God’s care.     Knowledge  of God’s care  should take away  our “fear”  and give us the peace  of God’s sure love.

Knowing  and remembering God’s sure love  should enable us  to “confess”  Jesus  as Lord  in front  of anyone.     Christians aren’t  putting their faith  in some idol  or myth.     We are believing  and trusting  in the LORD of lords  —  our Creator Redeemer,  who has given His life  to save us.     Out of love  and respect  for His sacrificial love,  let us never “deny”  Jesus.

Knowing how blessed  we are  in God’s care,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for never leaving  or forsaking  us.”

Love,
Margaret
