Bruised Reeds  and Dimly Burning Wicks

News outlets  show us  how Christians  are being harassed,  tortured,  and put down  in many ways  all around the world.     And yet,  it is reported  that they are refusing  to deny Christ Jesus as their Savior.     In standing up  for Christ,  they are often beaten more severely,  slandered,  and even killed.

They have the strength  and wherewithal  to continue standing strong  in the LORD  because our Savior  gives them  the needed moment-by-moment strength.     Prophesying  of our Savior,  Isaiah 42:3 says,

A bruised reed  He will not break
And a dimly burning wick  He will  not extinguish;
He will faithfully bring forth justice.

That promise  is for all God’s children.     We all face troubles  of every sort  and level  —  from personal struggles  to a challenging family life  to world-wide powers  that affect us.     There are always those  who seem  to thrive on hatred,  violence,  unbelief,  and the desire  to dominate  in some way  or another.     The Christian’s faith  might feel  so “bruised”  that they think  they will  “break” down.     But,  Christ comes  to strengthen them.     Other Christians may feel  like the fire  of their faith  is about  to die out  and be  “extinguished”  as their hopes  seem dashed.     But,  Christ faithfully  keeps their faith going.

God’s faithfulness  to His children  seems like a miracle  —  and it really is  for each time  of strengthening.     Christians  have no clue  how God has done it,  but their faith  is strengthened  in spite  of all their troubles.     The peace  of God’s love  draws them closer  to the Savior.

In the end,  “He will faithfully  bring forth justice.”     God’s children  will all  be vindicated.     Our joy and peace  will be overflowing.

Knowing that,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for graciously  keeping Your promise  to never leave  nor forsake us.”

Love,
Margaret
