O LORD, How My Adversaries Have Increased!

O LORD,  How My Adversaries  Have Increased!

In some ways  Christians today  can know King David’s feelings  as his very own son,  Absalom, was trying  to kill him.     It was bad enough  that Absalom  was trying  to kill  his very own father,  David,  but  all of those  who sided  with Absalom  were also trying  to kill David.    King David felt devastated.     So,  David prayed  in Psalm 3:1-2,

O LORD,  how my adversaries  have increased!
Many  are rising up  against me.
Many  are saying  of my soul,
There is no deliverance  for him  in God.     Selah.

That’s something.     Although not exactly  like David’s circumstances,  many Christians today can see  “how my adversaries  have increased!”     Christians can see  and experience that Many are rising up  against me”.

Christians  who are being beheaded,  tortured,  and killed  know their enemies very well.     But,  many other Christians  have no clue  about the subtle doctrinal changes  being made  by their leaders.     They are slowly being led  into New Age beliefs  and cults  of many different kinds  that kill eternally,  because they deny the Savior  in different ways.     Why  are some Christians easily led?     Because they don’t really know  the word of God  and the salvation  He has given us  through Jesus Christ alone.

But,  those Christians  who stay close  to the LORD  by studying His word  as David did,  can gladly say  with David  in verse 3,

But You,  O LORD,  are a shield  about me,
My glory,  and the One  who lifts  my head.

Because King David knew  God’s word,  he was able  to confidently trust  God’s promises.     David  was not confident  in his own confidence  —  he was confident  in the LORD’s  proven trustworthiness.     It’s all about God  and His faithful love  for all His children.     That’s why David ended his psalm  with verse 8,

Salvation belongs  to the LORD;
Your blessing  be upon Your people!     Selah.

As we confidently  put our faith  in God’s trustworthiness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for caring  for us  through every kind  of trial.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.
