To Fear  Your Name

Some people  are not respected  just because  they are Christians.     The world despises Christianity  when they feel  it judges  their sinful behaviors  and insists on walking  on the straight and narrow way  of God’s word.    Righteousness makes some people uncomfortable  as they realize their sins.

Other people  are not respected because  of their loose lifestyle,  laziness,  untrustworthiness,  etc.     Seems like many  just want  to blend  in between God’s children  and the world’s children.     They are straddling the fence  between obedience  to God  and obedience  to this world.     They are wishy-washy  regarding their desires  to be with God  and the world  at the same time.

King David realized   the disastrous results  of such indecision.     As he thought about God’s grace,  goodness,  love,  and faithfulness,  he prayed  in Psalm 86:11,

Teach me  Your way,  O LORD;
I will walk  in Your truth;
Unite my heart  to fear  Your name.

What an important prayer  for us  to pray  every day  of our lives  as we face  the many challenges  of this modern world.     As this world mocks Christianity,  we need God  to “teach me  Your way”.     When the world  wants  to sucker us  into their hatreds,  violence,  lies,  and decadence  of every sort,  we need  the LORD  to help us  “walk  in Your truth”.

Most importantly,  when we’re afraid  of the bullying  of this world  and the holy,  almighty authority  of God,  we need  to fervently pray,  “Unite my heart  to fear  Your name.”      We must realize  the vital importance  of fearlessly  standing up  for God’s truths  and righteousness.     Because God created us,  faithfully loves us  in Christ Jesus,  and daily sustains us,  we should rightly  respect Him  (fear Him)  according to His love  and authority  over absolutely all things.

We need  to straighten out  our hearts,  and get our priorities straight  in righteousness,  so we will do  what is decent,  good,  and right.

Then,  resting  in God’s righteousness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for helping us  to have united hearts  for You.”

Love,
Margaret
