Do Not Add  to His Words

Proverbs 30  was written  by a man named Agur.     He said something  very important  —  and has been important  since the beginning.     Agur wrote  in Proverbs 30:5-6,

Every word  of God  is tested;
He is a shield  to those  who take refuge  in Him.

Do not add  to His words
Or He will reprove you,  and you will be proved  a liar.

God’s word is “tested”  in a number  of ways.     It’s prophecies  have been accurately fulfilled  to the smallest detail  at their proper time.     Archeology has shown  that the word of God  has not changed  over the years  —  so what we see today  is what God had written  for us thousands  of years ago.     That means  Jesus Christ’s whole life  has been tested  to prove  that He is,  indeed,  the prophesied  one-and-only Savior.      And,  God’s children  also testify  as to how they have been shielded  from harm  in many ways  throughout their lives.     By what happens  in the lives  of God’s children,  they know  they can always go to  “take refuge  in Him”.

Because  of the surety  of God’s eternal word,  we lovingly  and respectfully  “do not add  to His words”.     He’s our heavenly Father  whose word is eternal truth.

There have been many  down through the ages  who have added  “to His words”.     Most of them  we’ve never heard of  because they have been  “reproved”  and  “proved a liar”.     In time, they have fallen by the wayside  and met their doom.     More recent false prophets  have been taking their place  with different lies  and changes  to God’s eternal word.     When the time is right,  they too,  “will be proved  a liar”  —  and they too  will meet their eternal doom.     In the meantime,  they are a test  to us.

And us?     We need  to make sure  we don’t get suckered in  to any false teachings  —  whether it be a cult,  New Age,  heathen religion,  or any sort  of “politically correct” worldly interpretation.

Praising God’s eternal truths,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for teaching us  Your truths  day by day.”

Love,
Margaret
