Love Her,  and She Will Watch  Over You

When King Solomon  taught his son,  he remembered what his father,  King David,  had taught him.     Solomon’s proverbs were written  for everybody  to learn from,  so we do well  to pay attention  to what is written  by the inspiration  of all  of God’s word.

In Proverbs 4:4-6,  Solomon wrote,

Let your heart  hold fast  my words;
Keep my commandments  and live;
Acquire wisdom!     Acquire understanding!
Do not forget  nor turn away  from the words  of my mouth.
Do not forsake her,  and she will guard you;
Love her,  and she will watch  over you.

Many people desire  to become smart  in their various lives.     They want to be smart  on the computer,  smart  in their business,  in their educational pursuits, etc.     Worldly smarts  are worthless  when they forsake  the Lord.     So, Solomon really emphasized  getting the right kind  of “wisdom”.     It’s not street smarts  —  the ability  to gain power  over other people  —  or the ability  to get rich.

Real wisdom  is only  in loving everything God teaches us  in His word.     We should never “forsake” the wisdom  of God’s word.     Only God’s word can “guard”  over our lives  and lead us safely  through this sinful world.     Instead of loving the things  of this world,  we need  to “love”  God’s wisdom  in His word.     Loving God’s wisdom  enables God’s word to  “watch over you.”     That’s where our safety,  peace,  and true joy is.

Loving all that God  teaches us  in His word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for teaching us  Your wisdom  in Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
