He Formed It  To Be Inhabited

When the LORD  was assuring Israel  of their “everlasting salvation”,  Isaiah  gives us  a beautiful detail  about God’s  eternal power  in Isaiah 45:18,

For thus says  the LORD,  who created  the heavens  (He is the God  who formed  the earth  and made it;  He established it  and did not create it  a waste place,  but formed it  to be inhabited),   “I am the LORD,  and there is  none else.”

We look around us  and see the trees,  flowers,  sky,  sun,  moon,  mountains,  valleys,  plains,   oceans,  rivers,  animals,  and multitudes  of people  —  just to mention   a little bit.     It’s all  a part  of life.     God “formed”  our world  “to be inhabited”.     This comparatively  small earth is not  “a waste place”  of any sort.

But,  all the other planets are  “a waste place”  of various sorts.     They have no atmosphere  —  no water  —  no means  of supporting life.     They cannot sustain life  —  so they cannot  “be inhabited”.

So,  the earth is different  from other planets.     The earth  is wondrously sustaining life  of every sort  —  life in the arctic regions  —  life in the deserts  —  life on the mountain tops  —  life in the valleys  —  life in the oceans  —  and life in small water puddles.     It’s all beautifully miraculous  as it demonstrates God’s power  in vast things  and things  of the tiniest detail.

In all  of that special attention  to the smallest details,  we need  to humbly see  God’s condescending love  to each  and every one  of us.     Let us not arrogantly act blind,  deaf,  and dumb  to the almighty power  of God’s love  to save us eternally.     God’s love and salvation  are real  in every detail  of our little lives.

In humble awe  of being  so greatly loved,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord God,  You certainly are LORD  of lords,  and there simply is none else.”

Love,
Margaret
