I Shall Mention  Rahab  and Babylon  Among Those  Who Know Me

The LORD  knows every  itsy-bitsy thought  and tendency  of absolutely everyone.     No one can hide anything  from Him.     People tend  to judge one another,  but they don’t really know what they are judging.     God knows  what He is judging.     And so,  Psalm 87:1-7 says,

His foundation is  in the holy mountains.
The LORD loves the gates  of Zion
More than all  the other dwelling places  of Jacob.
Glorious things are spoken  of you,
O city  of God.     Selah.

I shall mention Rahab  and Babylon  among those  who know Me;
Behold,  Philistia  and Tyre  with Ethiopia:
This one  was born there.”

But  of Zion  it shall be said,
“This one  and that one  were born  in her”;
And the Most High  Himself  will establish her.
The LORD  will count  when He registers the peoples,
“This one was born there.”    Selah

Then those  who sing  as well as those  who play the flutes  shall say,
“All my springs  of joy  are  in you.”

There’s a lot  to think about  in this whole Psalm.     In God’s view,  a person  is “born”  when they come  to a true faith  in the LORD.     Note  that the LORD  lists “Rahab”“Babylon”“Philistia”“Tyre”,  and “Ethiopia”  as  “This one  was born there.”      Those were all heathen places  —  but there were believers there  —  and God treasures all  who come  to Him  in faith  when they learn to  “know”  Him.     By faith,  we become God’s children  —  no matter who we are.

“The LORD loves the gates  of Zion.”     Zion means  a waymark,  a monument  that shows the way.     God loves it  when people pay attention  to His waymark  to show us the way  of salvation  through Christ Jesus alone.     People from around the world  have been born  into God’s family  by believing  in the waymark  of His eternal word  in the Bible.

Knowing our Savior,  we become God’s children,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for leading us home.”

Love,
Margaret
